Q&A: I want to try getting my hair permanently straightened? Need Info!?

Question by Ivy has Twin Boys!: I want to try getting my hair permanently straightened? Need Info!?
I would like to get a salon to do it, but not if it is over $ 200. If I do it myself, do you have a good method / product to do this?

I have long thick curly hair, and have never had it straightened.

I hear the Keratin method is the best one?

Permanent until 3 months then they’ll go back to how it used to be.

Hair straighteners are known as hair relaxers, keratin treatments and hair-smoothing products. They work by breaking and reforming the chemical bonds in keratin, which is the main protein that gives shape to each hair.

Google keratin treatment warnings. About 1,980,000 results (0.17 seconds)

Past users of the product have complained of sore throat, skin irritation, headaches, chest pain and rashes, among other symptoms. That may have something to do with the fact that the levels of formaldehyde found in the product rival those typically used in funeral embalming. That’s a lot of formaldehyde.
Hair-straightening products are allowed to contain small concentrations of formaldehyde (0.2 percent). But several hair-straightening solutions have been found to contain well above the allowable limit. For example, one popular hair-straightening product that advertised itself as “formaldehyde-free” actually contained 6.8 percent to 11.8 percent formaldehyde.

BTW: A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde. The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled “formaldehyde free” can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They tested four products: Coppola Keratin Complex Blonde Formula, Global Keratin Juvexin Optimized Functional Keratin, La Brasiliana Escluso Keratin Treatment with Collagen, and Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. While ChemRisk tested four popular brands of hair straighteners, there are hundreds on the market. Nov. 11-11

It is a billion dollar business, and they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to ‘abuse’, in this case, cancer.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

The hair industry is a billion dollar business, they sell products that cleans & condition the hair. They also sell products that damage and causes hair loss. They also DO NOT give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to ‘abuse’. Mechanical, chemical, or thermal styling. Hair straighteners and relaxers top the hair products pose the greatest risks. Hair relaxers, related products marketed heavily to African-American women, are dangerous because they may contain powerful chemicals such as lye, a toxic substance also used in drain cleaners.

How do I style my hair to get it sleek straight with a little volume?

Question by shaqmommabballstar344: How do I style my hair to get it sleek straight with a little volume?
So I really like my hair super straight, very sleek with as little flyaways as possible, but I’d like it to have a little more volume. My hair is naturally wavy/curly and is medium to thick. What I’m after is still the same sleek straight style I get when I flat iron it, but I’d like there to be a little more volume at the roots, not anything super noticeable but just enough that it has a more healthy bounce to it. How do I style it to make it like that?

Answer by TroyTroy
U should str8N it den add sum volumizing cream only @ da roots & like an inch out, turn head upside while stroking roots down w/ Ur fingers & stand back up. Don’t brush after, it’ll flatten dat bounce & Bsides Ur hair should B nice since U str8Nd it.

I have heard Biosilk is pretty good. Sunsilk sucks. Matrix — no idea. But if you have fairly thin hair I recommend Redken Iron silk! It works wonders for me! Spray it on while you’re straightening your hair — it protects it too.

Q&A: Organix Keratin 30 Day Treatment help ???! Ten points for best answer!?

Question by Sierra R: Organix Keratin 30 Day Treatment help ???! Ten points for best answer!?
Okay, so on Saturday I did the Organix Keratin 30 Treatment. If any of you have tried it, you know your supposed to blow dry your hair straight then straighten it to seal the cuticle. I have never blow dried my hair straight before, so it was a frizzy hot mess. I straightened it and it didn’t look any different then when I normally straighten it. I didn’t know how much product to put in my hair because all the box said was “do not saturate hair” so I didn’t put very much (I still have 3/4 of the bottle left). I washed it out today, and my hair is just as curly as it usually is. If I try to do the Organix treatment again today with the rest of the bottle, do you think my hair will fall out or something? And should I use the rest of the bottle (3/4 left)? And do you think it would work better if instead of blow drying my hair straight, if I just blow dried it then straightened it really good?
I have never dyed my hair, or used any chemicals on it other than this Organix treatment and it was only one time.
I’ve decided to try it again today since i’m leaving for Florida in like five days and I want straight hair for Florida. I put most of the rest of the bottle on my hair this time, so hopefully it works.
