How to permanently make naturally curly hair wavy?

Question by Shae M: How to permanently make naturally curly hair wavy?
I hate my curly mixed hair. It makes me look very young and I think wavy hair would be a lot easier for me to take care of.

I know you can get it chemically straightened, it’s like a perm, but straight. It might come out completely straight instead of wavy. Try sleeping with it damp and in braids.

I do not recommend hair products, and they’re not permanent, that’s $ 300 – $ 800 each time you get them done. One I responded, she had hers done in March and that was May when she posted it? It is a billion dollar business, and they do not give money back guarantee for damaged hair or hair loss due to ‘abuse’, in this case, cancer.

You can use round pro brush & hair dryer on low heat, or set your hair in plastic curlers to make your hair silky, soft, smooth, and tame the frizzy/pouffy hair.

Hair straighteners are known as hair relaxers, keratin treatments and hair-smoothing products. They work by breaking and reforming the chemical bonds in keratin, which is the main protein that gives shape to each hair.

Google: keratin treatment warnings. About 1,980,000 results (0.17 seconds) 1-23-12. and Google: Lawsuits Brazilian Blowouts. About 1,010,000 results (0.24 seconds)
Five months ago, the federal government put out a hazard alert about the hair-smoothing treatment, Brazilian Blowout etc. warning that it contains liquid formaldehyde that can turn into formaldehyde gas when heated during a treatment. Now, the company’s bottles of solution carry a warning label to alert stylists to the potential formaldehyde risk and the need to perform the treatment in a well-ventilated area. The manufacturer said Monday (3-6-12) that it had agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit for about $ 4.5 million.

Hair-straightening products are allowed to contain small concentrations of formaldehyde (0.2 percent). But several hair-straightening solutions have been found to contain well above the allowable limit. For example, one popular hair-straightening product that advertised itself as “formaldehyde-free” actually contained 6.8 percent to 11.8 percent formaldehyde.

BTW: A variety of hair-straightening products used in professional salons can expose both hairdressers and their customers to formaldehyde. The results show that three professional hair-smoothing treatments labeled “formaldehyde free” can produce the cancer-causing chemical at concentrations above the occupational exposure limits set by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They tested four products: Coppola Keratin Complex Blonde Formula, Global Keratin Juvexin Optimized Functional Keratin, La Brasiliana Escluso Keratin Treatment with Collagen, and Brazilian Blowout Acai Professional Smoothing Solution. While ChemRisk tested four popular brands of hair straighteners, THERE ARE HUNDREDS on the market. Nov. 11-11

By contrast, beauty salon owners and stylists generally lack a scientific background and don’t have a keen awareness of the danger of working with products that contain formaldehyde, experts say.

Chemicals can enter the body through the skin.

What are good hair straighteners for African Americans?

Question by i ♥ pink: What are good hair straighteners for African Americans?
I need to buy a hair straightener.. FAST!
but i dont know what kind I should get.
I have really course, thick hair.
It also gets really frizzy too.

I would think that your hair straightener wouldnt be much different than one a caucasian person uses. Maybe just one with a higher heat but of course that just damages your hair. I use a Wigo and it works really great, it gets REALLY hot. It was $ 80. I would recommend buying a heat protectant product if you’re going to buy one and use it often so it burns the product before your hair.

If I get one of those permanent hair straightener products you do at home, will it work?

Question by Kiki: If I get one of those permanent hair straightener products you do at home, will it work?
I have really frizzy hair, and have to straighten it or put a ton of hairspray in it to make it look good, would a chemical home straightening product work? Similar as a home perm, but I have never tried either. Even if it won’t make my hair 100% straight, I would just like to make the process of getting it there faster… has anyone done this before?
