Damian Lewis watched a production by the Sir Hubert Von Herkomer Arts Foundation in memory of his late wife Helen McCrory, who was a patron of the foundation, yesterday afternoon. The actor smiled as he posed for pictures with the young stars of the production, following their turn in A Brave New World.

On April 16, Damian, 50, announced that Helen had died at the age of 52.

He said The Peaky Blinders actress had lost her “heroic” battle with cancer.

The English actor, who is currently starring in Sky TV show Billions, looked dapper for his red carpet return, which celebrated the work of his late spouse.

He opted for a smart navy blazer over a white T-shirt and grey trousers.

Damian was photographed with Debbi Clark, the CEO and founder of HVH Arts.

She called Helen her “friend and hero” in an online tribute to the star.

On the foundation’s website, she wrote: “The shining light of my friend and hero Helen McCrory will live on forever in the work we do.

“We will be strong and try with all our might to smile today, but we will smile as that is what Helen McCrory did, she smiled, she gave, she enjoyed life to the full.”

Helen, who starred in the Harry Potter films and James Bond movie Skyfall to name but a few, had been a patron of the organisation since 2013.

Debbi described the actress as “a force of nature, passionate, dedicated to the arts and culture”.

An award supporting underprivileged young people in the arts has been set up in her honour.

The McCrory Award will be given out annually.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2007, are parents to Manon, 14, and Gulliver, 13.

The actor was pictured on the set of Billions, which returns to TV screens next week.

There will be five more episodes in season 5.

Following Helen’s death, Damian took to social media to share the heartbreaking news with fans.

“I’m heartbroken to announce that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family,” he tweeted.

“She has died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly.

“Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you.”
