James Martin has opened up about how he lost five stone in just two months following nasty comments about his weight on social media.

The TV chef, 49, has overhauled his lifestyle in recent years after his dramatic weight loss during his appearance on Strictly Come Dancing changed his outlook on what he eats.

James, who used to host Saturday Kitchen on the BBC and now does regular cooking segments on ITV's This Morning, revealed how in just one week on the BBC dance show, he shed a stone in weight.

And when his time on the show ended after two months back in 2005, the chef had lost a whopping five stone.

Ever since then, James has vowed to keep the weight off and recently explained how he lost over two stone, telling fans on social media: “Lost 14 kilos (2st 3lb) got to get new clothes."

Speaking of his weight battles, the star told The Sun back in 2018: "It’s hard work because I’m a big bloke so I’ve really got to watch what I eat and drink, and make sure I exercise regularly."

He added: "I looked on social media and every comment was about me being fat. So I lost a stone and a half.

"I just think it's a lifestyle thing and also looking at yourself on TV. You kind of watch and go, 'Oh God there's a bit of chin happening there'.”

James added: "Before you used to watch TV on a small one and now they're massive.

"And no doubt I’ll lose another stone on this tour."

This comes after James recently revealed that he struggles with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield’s ‘random’ questions on This Morning.

During an appearance on Loose Women, host Nadia Sawalha said to him: “You are not showbiz at all – to be honest sometimes on This Morning you are so grumpy but I love that you don’t care."

The chef then replied: "Well I’ve got to get up at 4 o’clock in the morning and as you know if you have a restaurant through these times it is not the easiest at the moment."

He added: “And some of the questions they ask you are random!"
