Prince William confided in his father Prince Charles and grandmother The Queen after having doubts about his future with Kate Middleton, it has been claimed by a royal expert.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, aged 38 and 39 respectively, will celebrate 10 years of marriage on Thursday.

But four years before their big wedding day, William split from Kate after speculation grew surrounding an engagement between the royal couple.

Royal expert and author Katie Nicholl has now claimed that William confided in Charles and The Queen the Christmas before, to discuss his "anxieties" over settling down with his now-wife.

Kate has previously said: "At the time, I wasn't very happy about it, but it made me a stronger person.

"I really valued that time for me as well, although I didn't think it at the time."

William added: "We were both very young… we were both finding ourselves and being different characters.

William wore a green padded jacket with blue trousers and a pair of brown boots as held the handle of a golf club and practised his swing, much to the delight of wife Kate who couldn't help but chuckle at her other half.
