CONOR McGREGOR has hailed Glover Teixeira for fulfilling his dream of winning UFC gold – which he admits has given him 'Proper Motivation'.

Teixeira claimed the light-heavyweight title to become the oldest first-time champion in UFC history at the age of 42.

The Brazilian registered a sensational second-round submission victory over Jan Blachowicz in his second title fight on Saturday night in the main event of UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi.

Teixeira completing his fairytale story drew praise from the majority of the MMA community, including McGregor.

The Notorious tweeted: "The oldest first time champion in UFC history, Glover Teixeira! Just wow! Proper motivation!"

In his post-fight interview, an emotional Teixeira said of the momentous achievement: "Twenty years, baby. You know, I have no words to describe it."

He added: "We talked about Dana White and how he promotes the UFC and how he breaks the rules and that's why the UFC is what it is.

"And I'm breaking the rules, 42 years old. And I'm gonna keep breaking those rules."

He later told fans: "Never give up on your dreams.

"No matter what people say, don't listen to them. They're going to put you down.

"Don't listen to those negative people. Believe in yourself and keep going forward."

McGregor, 33, is currently recovering from the horrific broken leg he suffered in his UFC 267 trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July.

But Ireland's first UFC champion is already back on his feet and hitting pads as he bids to return to the octagon next summer.

Earlier this month, McGregor's manager – Paradigm Sports Management chief Audie Attar – told SunSport: "He's ahead of schedule.

"We not only just got our X-ray results [back], [we got] our ultrasound results and CT scan results.

"And when I look at the view of the X-ray myself, it's healing so beautifully.

"He's only ten-and-a-half weeks out of surgery and he's walking.

"And he's actually doing s*** that we don't want him to do like throwing the first pitch at the Cubs game."
