Despite the rocky relationship between Prince Harry and his older brother Prince William over the past few years, little has been said about the relationship between Harry and his sister-in-law, Kate Middleton.

After more than 10 years married to the future King of England, Harry, 36, and Kate, 39, who recently revealed she was "keen to bury the hatchet" with Harry and Meghan, have had plenty of time to get to know one another, and fans are desperate to know how their relationship has handled the recent royal scandal.

The trio felt the eyes of the country on them after Prince Harry returned to the UK alone for the funeral of their grandfather, the late Duke of Edinburgh back in April, just months after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex aired their explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey.

As the brothers continue to part their separate ways, we have taken a look back at the relationship between Harry and Kate, who could be the key to mending the brothers broken relationship.

The pair first met after shortly after William, 38, and Kate were spotted together while they attended the University of St. Andrews in 2003 and it is believed that Kate made every effort to make Harry feel welcome on his brotherly visits.

A source from St. Andrews explained: “From the earliest days, Kate always maintained an open-door policy to Prince Harry.

“While they were students, she always made him feel welcome. The three also spent weekends together.”

But Kate knew that she needed to gain Prince Harry’s approval to pursue a romantic relationship with William.

An insider added: “Kate made a massive effort with Harry … She grew up in such an inclusive family,” and added that they were often called the ‘En Masse Middletons’ because they always travelled together.

And it appeared her efforts paid off as Prince Harry opened up in an interview with Newsweek in 2017 and spoke fondly of his sister-in-law.

He said: “There was no filling the hole left by Diana's death, and Harry seemed to be growing up without someone emotionally available he could lean on.

“Kate has helped fill some of that gap. When she and William got engaged, Harry called her the big sister he never had. He often pops into their apartment at Kensington Palace, where she cooks him a meal — roast chicken is reportedly a particular favourite."

Prior to his relationship with Meghan Markle, it is reported that Harry lived in the two bedroom Nottingham Cottage on the Kensington Palace grounds next door to Kate and William’s apartment.

According to the Daily Mail, a source claimed: “Harry is totally at ease popping over to the Cambridge’s gym to work out next to Wills, and he’s used to seeing Kate in her cashmere dressing gown reading to Charlotte, or joining in cosy family suppers eaten from their laps.”

As Kate and William started to grow their family together, the inside source added that his sister-in-law loved watching the young prince become an uncle to her children.

The insider added: “Kate … adores the way Harry plays with her children. He is very good with them, a charming big kid and silly uncle.”

But the family unit was ruffled when Harry introduced his then girlfriend, Meghan Markle, to the family, as Kate reportedly met the new addition with “distant politeness” according to authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

According to Yahoo! News, this wasn’t the first time that Kate had taken a disliking to one of Prince Harry’s former partners, such as his relationship with Chelsy Davy, a Zimbabwean beauty was born to wealthy parents and raised in South Africa, who dated Harry during the early 2000s.

Their relationship was short lived as royal biographer, Katie Nicholl shared how Chelsy failed to get along with the other members of the royal family.

She said: “They were completely different characters and the bubbly Zimbabwean got along better with Pippa [Middleton].”

When the controversial interview aired between Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, it is believed that they royal parents were mortified at the dirty laundry aired on TV.

As noted by Page Six, one issue of contention between Kate and Meghan was over the wedding details, particularly the claim that Kate made Meghan cry over flower girl dresses.

Katie Nicholl added: “You never hear about [Kate] falling out with anyone because she is very careful with how she treats others, so for this story to be circulating is very hard.”

Whether the royal foursome will repair their rocky relationship in the years to come, no one knows but royal fans have been desperate to see a reunion between the two households since Harry and Meghan stepped down from their royal duties in 2019.
