DEAR DEIDRE: I TRY to be there for everyone but sometimes it isn’t enough.
People disappoint me, say horrible things and make fun. It hurts me so deeply.

I am a 16-year-old girl. I’ve always been willing to help anyone who needs support.
My parents tell me that I don’t always have to say “yes” to everything, but I just want to help so that nobody feels bad.
My friend suggested people could be exploiting me and that made me think about it.
I wonder if I am like this because I don’t like fighting.
I know how it feels to be sad because I have suffered with depression and have scars to prove it.
DEIDRE SAYS: It’s admirable that you want to be there for everyone else but saying yes when you want to say no can be harmful to your health and your relationships.
Accept that you can’t please everyone and sometimes it’s best all round for you to say how you really feel.
My e-leaflet on Raising Self-Esteem will help you.
