Supermarket queues seem to only be getting longer as new rules mean less shoppers can enter a store at one time. Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Lidl are now part of a new app that allows shoppers to monitor their store before visiting.

During the coronavirus lockdown, Britons are only allowed to leave their homes for a very limited number of reasons.

This includes making essential trips to the supermarket to stock up on groceries.

Although shoppers have been asked to shop as little as often, there have still been huge queues outside many stores.

This comes as various supermarkets introduce rules to restrict how many people can enter the store at one time.

A new mobile app has been set up to let customers know just how long they are likely to be waiting at their local shop.

While there is usually no way of telling how long you will wait, the app will give shoppers a heads up before they leave their home.

How does it work?

The Supermarket Check In app asks users to share information on how long they have waited to get into a supermarket.

Using the location setting on the phone, shoppers can check how long others have queued for at their local stores.

It also tells Britons how recently the last upload was so they know how reliable the information is likely to be.

However, the effectiveness of the app depends on how many people have used it in your area.

It is also not available to use in all locations of the country.

Only launched within the last few weeks, it is expected that more locations and user inputs will be added in the future.

The app shows data from all supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda.

Live data is also available for discount supermarket chains including Aldi and Lidl.

As the coronavirus crisis continues, many supermarkets have made changes to their operations.

This includes reducing opening hours so that there is more time for shelves to be restocked.

Social distancing measures have also been put into place in many stores.

These include only allowing one shopper per trolley and having only a small number of customers in stores at one time.
