Ackley Bridge has resumed filming, with production getting underway on the fourth series.

The popular Channel 4 drama — which follows the lives of teachers and students of the eponymous school — will return for a 10 part series, which will be filmed with Covid-19 safety measures in place.

The fourth series will see a selection of new characters join the show, including Kayla (Robyn Cara), who is described as a funny and vibrant mixed-race teenager who will find herself torn between her mum’s family who are white and her dad’s traditional Pakistani family.

Meanwhile, Kayla’s best pal Fizza (Yasmin Al Khudhairi) is intelligent and politically active, while arrogant Johnny (Ryan Dean) is sceptical of school and catches Kayla and Fizza’s attention.

Kayla’s sister Marina (Carla Woodcock) is also new to the school and Tahir —  the nephew of Kaneez (Sunetra Sarker) — is a charming liar, who is seemingly hiding a big family secret.
