This evening, The One Show presenter Alex Jones welcomed back frequent co-presenter and journalist Amol Rajan, and he had a little announcement to share on the popular BBC show.

Alex seemed delighted as she introduced Amol on the BBC chat show once again, saying: “Welcome back, it’s been a little while.”

Though Amol seemed joyed to be back on the show, but was unsure that any time had passed, asking: “Has it?”

Alex then confirmed he had only been away for a few weeks.

However, the two had an exciting announcement to share, which, previously, only Alex had been privy to.

After Alex congratulated Amol on his newest job at Radio 4’s Today programme, Amol seemed shocked, saying: “Oh, I thought you meant the other thing.”

Alex jokingly replied: “Oh, well, we’ll get to that.”

Pointing to Amol, she continued: “Well I was going to say, it’s very early in the morning, but with a new…”

“Newborn baby maybe,” Amol quickly replied.

“I’m absolutely terrified, so there’s the Radio 4 Today Programme which involves getting up at 3am,” Amol explained.

“But, funnily enough, I’ve never said this in public but I’ve said it to you privately a little while ago.

“My wife and I are also having another baby,” he continued.

The Indian-born British journalist married academic Charlotte Faircloth in 2013, and this will be their third child.

Amol also announced the baby was “due on the same date” as when he starts his new job at Today.

“Same day, can you believe it?” Alex replied.

Amol then joked with Alex that the baby “means I’m going to be texting you at 3am before I come into the office, saying how do you change a nappy!”

The show this evening was full of other exciting announcements as Alex then went on to confirm Ronan Keating and Jermaine Jenas were joining The One Show team as regular hosts.

“Happy news all around,” said Alex, finishing her opening segment.

Alex has been a presenter on the BBC One magazine programme for over a decade, beginning in 2010.

Amol has been the BBC‘s media editor since 2016 and is the former editor of The Independent.

Earlier this year, he joined the line-up presenting Radio 4’s Today programme.

After the news was released in March, he tweeted: “Enormously humbled and thrilled to join the presenting lineup on @BBCr4today, alongside a team of greats on and off air.

“I am also doing some prime-time interviews for the @bbc. Will try to do everyone proud,” he continued.

The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
