Love Island could be making a ‘surprise return’ this year but with a Gogglebox-style spin-off.
After the new series had to be cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak, TV bosses are now reportedly planning something new.
And to be honest, we are all here for it.
The show will have a Gogglebox-style format where former contestants will look back at the programme’s ‘best bits’ from the past five years.
A show source said: ‘This news is going to thrill Love Island’s millions of fans. It means they will still get their fix this summer.’
The spin-off will see some of the former contestants watching clips of Love Island’s most memorable highlights.
Bosses are reportedly in talks to sign up Megan Barton-Hanson, Olivia Attwood and Kem Cetinay.
‘It’s going to be a lovely trip down memory lane for the contestants. They’ll be watching some of their best – and worst – moments. Seeing their reactions will be priceless,’ the source added to Daily Star.
‘It will also be a chance for viewers to see how the contestants have changed since their time on Love Island.’
It comes after ITV boss Kevin Lygo confirmed in a statement that the 2020 series wouldn’t be going ahead.
‘We have tried every which way to make Love Island this summer but logistically it’s just not possible to produce it in a way that safeguards the wellbeing of everyone involved and that for us is the priority,’ he explained.
‘In normal circumstances, we would be preparing very soon to travel out to the location in Mallorca to get the villa ready but clearly that’s now out of the question.’
Although, with the spin-off idea, the show can easily go ahead because the contestants can film while in the comfort of their own homes.
