Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) is in for quite the shock in Emmerdale next week after a rude customer steals her table in the cafe, refusing to move when asked to do so.
Claudette (Flo Wilson), a newcomer to the village, arrives at the cafe and wastes little time in making her presence felt, ordering a fresh pot of tea, refusing to pay any ‘lukewarm rubbish.’
The woman’s bluntness takes even Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) by surprise, as she sets about granting the customer’s wish, with Claudette taking a seat at a table nearby, having proved that she is someone not to be trifled with.
Manpreet learns this lesson the hard way, as she returns from the bathroom to ask Claudette if she would kindly move, given that she’s taken up residence at her table.
Claudette, however, is in no mood to be friendly, as she berates Manpreet for making a mess at said table. ‘It’s like a herd of toddlers had a tea party!’, she exclaims, leaving Manpreet in utter shock at her rudeness.
Despite the awkwardness, Manpreet makes it quite clear that she would like her table back, but Claudette sits in silence, staring her out, refusing to move, forcing the GP to turn to Brenda for assistance.
‘What are you getting her involve for?’, responds Claudette. ‘What’s she going to do? Tip me out of my chair? I’d like to see her try!’
Horrified by the turn of events, Manpreet takes hold of her meal and storms out of the cafe, as Claudette grins, knowing she’s going to settle into the eponymous village well, having proved herself a true force to be reckoned with.
But both she and Manpreet are in for a shock, with subsequent scenes set to reveal that Claudette is actually Charles Anderson’s (Kevin Mathurin) mum!
‘She is deeply proud of her son Charles’ position as a vicar and grandson Ethan’s legal career,’ said an Emmerdale spokesperson when news of Flo’s casting was announced.
‘She believes herself to be a loving matriarch, but secretly Charles finds his mother rather overbearing and soon the other villagers will learn not to get on the wrong side of Claudette.’
Manpreet has seemingly already learned that lesson!
Emmerdale airs these scenes Thursday May 25 at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
