George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) is set to get quite the shock in Coronation Street next week when Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pearce) makes an unsettling discovery.
Todd is tasked with cleaning out the back room of the funeral parlour, while George tends to more pressing matters.
Eileen (Sue Cleaver), meanwhile, pops by to have a word with her son, after she realised how upset he was in the wake of an a showdown with Bernie Winter (Jane Hazelgrove) earlier that day.
She brings with her a coffee in the hopes that it will cheer him up, but she’s left speechless when Todd emerges from the back shouting all sorts at George.
Todd quickly changes his tune when he realises his mum is present, as he claims he saw a big spider, which made him angry.
But it’s clear that has uncovered something disturbing – something he’d rather his mum did not find out.
Eileen was baffled by Todd’s reaction, reminding him that he’s never been frightened of spiders before, forcing the young man to do what he does best and improvise.
After successfully getting rid of Eileen, Todd comes clean about what’s really bothering him, as he rails at George over a discovery he made in the back room.
‘I don’t get jumpy at spiders,’ says Todd, ‘[but] I do at serial killers!
‘Particularly ones that used to be married to my mum!
‘Why have you got Pat Phelan’s ashes?’
The revelation leaves George speechless, as Todd puts the killer’s makeshift urn on the table in front of him!
To reiterate the question Todd poses, just why has George held on to the notorious killer’s remains? And will Eileen find out the truth?
Coronation Street airs these scenes Friday August 27 at 7:30pm on ITV.
