Virgin River season four will be airing on Netflix after it was given the go-ahead by the streaming platform. Season three ended on a number of cliffhangers, with town mayor Hope’s (played by Annette O’Toole) fate left hanging in the balance. Fans are keen to know whether she will star in season four, or whether the actress has left for good.

Will Hope be in Virgin River season 4?

Virgin River season four is in the making and fans are still waiting for answers to some huge questions.

Jack Sheridan’s (Martin Henderson) shooter has still not been found, with Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) seemingly being framed.

Nurse Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) announced to Jack that she was pregnant, but was unsure who the father was.

Meanwhile, Doc Mullins (Tim Matheson) was heartbroken to hear Hope had been involved in a tragic car accident.

At the end of the season, she was in a medically-induced coma and fans are keen to know if she survives.

The reason why Hope was physically absent from season three was that actress O’Toole could not travel for filming.

The series is filmed in British Columbia, and due to coronavirus restrictions, the star was unable to make the trip.

Therefore, she was incorporated into the season through a number of video calls with Doc.

He ended up receiving some terrible news as Hope had been involved in a crash on her way back to Virgin River.

She was not seen in the flesh in hospital, but she was only just alive.

As coronavirus restrictions have now started to lift, there is a high chance Hope will feature more in season four.

The creators of the series have previously said how they hoped she will return as she still has some unfinished storylines.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Sue Tenney said: “To us, it’s the recovery and what she’s dealing with – a traumatic brain injury.

“In a hospital and going through recovery, that’s not really where our show lives.”

Speaking about O’Toole’s absence, she said: “If we have a fourth season, everyone is now vaccinated and the pandemic is not what it was. So, I would hope that we would have Annette back.”

With this in mind, it seems Hope will be making a comeback in the next instalment of the escapist series.

She will hopefully come out of her coma and commit to her wedding vow renewal ceremony with Doc as planned.

Hope has been subject to a number of health scares throughout the series, including minor heart attacks.

Her life was also in danger when she was away visiting her elderly aunt, as a hurricane hit the area.

Doc almost risked his own life when he agreed to travel out in a bid to find her.

Fans saw a far more vulnerable side to Doc in the third season, as he realised how much he cared for Hope.

Hopefully, Hope makes a steady recovery in the fourth season and the pair are able to reignite their relationship.

Viewers took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Hope’s absence, with @caroloneandonly saying: “I ship Hope and Doc so bad in Virgin River. That ship better not go down too.”

@alexoalmatier added: “Virgin River feels like a warm hug. Also, Doc & Hope are the cutest. That’s all.”

Virgin River seasons 1-3 are on Netflix now.
