Sex bomb: German police discover ‘grenade’ found in forest is actually a dildo designed to look like an explosive

  • Bomb squad called to forest near Passau to probe bag with suspicious contents
  • Jogger thought she had discovered a grenade – but it turned out to be a sex toy
  • Condoms and lubricant were also found in the bag alongside the rubber dildo

A German bomb squad made an unexpected discovery when the suspected hand grenade they had been called in to inspect turned out to be a sex toy.

Authorities on Tuesday said a woman had reported finding a transparent bag containing the device a day earlier while on a jog in a forest outside the Bavarian city of Passau, near the borders with Austria and the Czech Republic.

When the squad arrived and checked out the contents of the bag, they discovered the hand-grenade shaped rubber sex toy inside.

The bag also contained condoms and lubricant, which helped inform the squad’s hypothesis about the device’s intended use, police told German news agency dpa.

‘An internet search confirmed the suspicion,’ police said.

‘There are actually toys in the form of hand grenades.’

A police spokesman told dpa that they suspected someone wanted to throw away the items, rather than putting them in the bin.

The discovery of forgotten or hidden munitions is still a regular occurrence in Germany more than 75 years after the end of World War II.

Last week, construction workers in the southern German city of Mannheim uncovered a 500-kilo (1,100-pound) World War II-era aerial bomb.

Police said the device was found at a former US military barracks and quickly defused.

At least 150 police officers were called to assist in clearing about 3,000 people from the surrounding area.

In January, experts detonated four World War II-era bombs in the central city of Göttingen after evacuating thousands of residents from their homes.

The bombs had been dropped by the US military during the war.
