A thug spied a ‘half-naked’ man in his girlfriend’s house after peering through the letterbox before barging in and punching her in the face and stabbing him with a screwdriver.

Ricky Wells, 52, kicked down the back gate of Emma Venamore’s home in Ashford, Kent before running upstairs and assaulting her and Daniel Cooper in July last year.

After hitting Ms Venamore and leaving her with a black eye, Wells grabbed a flat-headed screwdriver inside the house and stabbed Mr Cooper in the chest and armpit, puncturing his lung and leaving him in intensive care for four days.

A jury unanimously found Wells guilty of wounding with intent and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and he was jailed for five years, the Kent Messenger reported.

‘This was a stabbing carried out by this defendant who was, you may think, at the very least disappointed that Ms Venamore was entertaining someone else,’ prosecutor Ian Foinette told Canterbury Crown Court.

‘And you may imagine that he was wound up, and the principle object of his anger was Mr Cooper.

‘When he struck that screwdriver into Mr Cooper, not once but twice, to his chest and under his armpit, he intended to cause serious harm.’

Susan Fewins, defending Wells, claimed he was acting out of self-defence after mistaking Mr Cooper for an intruder.

But Judge Simon Taylor KC told Wells he had ‘flown into a rage’ after seeing another man with ‘your woman’.

‘You ran up the stairs calling her a s**g, when you saw her you punched her in the face causing her to fall to the floor.

‘Then you turned your attention to the man who was the primary source of anger, a man who had the temerity to be with your woman.’

Wells was also handed a 10-year restraining order banning him from contacting either of the victims.
